About this Recipe

This dish is the perfect combination of crunch, softness, saltiness, and spice. Some versions of this recipe call for the tofu to be deep fried, but I personally love it pan fried.

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 2 jalapeño peppers
  • 3 cloves of garlic (or to taste)
  • 2 shallots
  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon white pepper (or to taste)

  1. Unwrap the tofu and pat down the excess liquid with a towel.
  2. Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Cut the shallots, garlic, and peppers.
  4. In a bowl, mix together the cornstarch with the salt and white pepper.
  5. Coat the tofu cubes completely with the dry mixture.
  6. Heat the pan with oil on high.
  7. Turn the heat to medium and place the tofu on the pan.
  8. Flip tofu chunks as they become golden brown.
  9. Once each tofu cube is golden brown on all four sides, take them out and place on a plate.
  10. Add a bit more oil to the pan and throw in the peppers, shallots, and garlic. Cook for a minute or two.
  11. Put the tofu into the pan with the garlic, shallots, and peppers. Toss thoroughly.
  12. Plate the tofu and enjoy with rice!
